Autographed letter signed, 1 page - on a postcard, 5,25 x 7 inch, Paris, 17.09.1885, in German, to Theodor Ackermann in Munich - Diesel requests some books, including Perels Manual of the Agricultural Machines, written and signed in black ink "Diesel", attractively mounted (removable) for fine display with a photograph, shows Rudolf Diesel in a close-up portrait (altogether 8,25 x 11,75 inch), with a few postal cancellations over the dark writing and very light soiling - in fine to very fine condition. "In Beantwortung Ihrer (werth.) Postcarte vom 7. J. nebst Catalogen, ersuche ich um gefällige Zusendung von: Marcker, Handb. der Spiritusfabr. 1880 ...(Catalog 118 N: 935) ferner: Bergmann Kogel. prakt. Mühlenbauer 4 Aufl. Weimar 1880 - womöglich antiquarisch; nur wenn dies gar nicht möglich, bitte um Zusendung eines neuen Exemplars. Ferner bitte ich mir zu sagen, ob und unter welchen Bedingungen Sie mir Perels Handb. der landwirtsch. Maschinen letzte Auflage, antiquarisch verschaffen können. - Den Betrag werde gegen Rechnung umgehend einsenden." Translated: "In reply to your esteemed postcard from the 7J along with catalogues, I ask you to kindly send: Marcker, manual of the fabrication of spirit 1880...(Catalog 118 N: 935) also: Bergmann Kogel. Practical Millconstructor 4 edition Weimar 1880. If possible antiquarian; only if this is not at all possible, please send a new copy. Please tell me also if and on what terms you can procure for me an antiquarian copy of Perels Manual of the Agricultural Machines last edition. Will immediately send the amount on account." 1885 was an important year for Diesel. He established a Parisian laboratory and studied machines and engines. He greatly improved his engine by the early 1890s.
