Letter signed, 1 1/2 pages - on two adjoining sheets, 5 x 8 inch, `Legation de Norvege` stationery (Nansen was a Norwegian Ambassador in London since 1906), London, 19.04.1907, to Alice Bertha Gomme (1853-1938, leading British folklorist, and a pioneer in the study of children's games) - concerning an invitation to dinner, signed in dark ink "Fridtjof Nansen", with a central horizontal mailing fold and very mild browning - in fine to very fine condition. Accompanied by the original envelope. "Dear Mrs Gomme Many thanks for your very kind letter. It would indeed have given me much pleasure to be present on the evening of Monday, 22th, but unfortunately I have, already a long time ago, accepted an invitation to dinner on that evening, and am thus prevented from availing myself of the Lord Mayor`s kind invitation. Believe me - yours truly - Fridtjof Nansen"
