Translated: "Dear Gerard de Catalogne, I would have been very happy to see you and speak with you about the past. But I will only pass through Paris and will be at Malagar, Gironde, on 23 Septembre, I am very sorry not to see you and not to know your son. Jean [probably his son Jean Mauriac, born 1924] told me about the friendly welcome you had given him in Haiti. Believe in my good faithful thought. - Francois Mauriac"
