Accompanied by the original envelope, addressed in Charles`s own hand. "Dear Vernon, A thousand thanks for the splendid bulbs for my birthday. You are kind to have taken the trouble to obtain them for me and I am most touched. I spent the afternoon planting them - many of them in the Savill garden bit, as it / turns out, because the woodland garden already has a lot in it which I ordered last year! I will plant the frit-illaria tomorrow - the wood if I still can - my back is so sore after planting today`s bulbs! As ever - Charles"
