Letter signed, 2 pages on two adjoining sheets, 9 x 13,5 inch (opened 18 x 13,5 inch), 12.VI.1567, in French, letter with interesting content on the political situation in France and Switzerland in 1567 - Catherine is concerned regarding the plans of the King of Spain, whose army was approaching Geneve, and she writes about 6000 Swiss people, who perhaps could be available for the safety of Geneve; Catherine is also writing about a marriage of Charles IX with an older princess, signed in black ink, adjoining sheet with date "12 Juin 1567", address and seal, with intersecting letter folds with a few mild edge separations and small tears to a few intersections, scattered mild stains and small creases to the edges - in nearly fine condition. Accompanied by a half-linen paperboard cover (14,25 x 19,5 inch) bearing a printed portrait drawing, a handwritten partial transcription of Catherine`s letter and a handwritten brief overview of the French policy and Switzerland in the context of Spain during the reign of Philippe II. and the Protestant Reformation (in French). In parts: "Elle est toujours inquiete des dessins du Roi d`Espagne dont l`armee approchait de Geneve ... Ensuite elle ecrit a propos d`un projet de mariage de Charles IX avec une princesse plus agee `Le Roy mon Fils veut une femme, non pas une seconde Mere ... Il en a assez d`une ... Les Portugais font une armee pour ravager nos cotes - Tourquevaux en a averti Montlue et il a bien fait ... Nous faisons faire une levee de 6000 Suisses pour tenir nos affaires toujours en plus de surete ... Mais sachez qu`il a un Comte d`angouzoule, en Suisse, qui sous couleur de faire renouveller le Traite de commerce de Milan, fait de tres mau..."
