Signed vintage matte-finish picture, shows Doan Huy in a chair, 3,75 x 5,25 inch, signed in the lower border (on her official stamp) in dark ink, in very fine condition. Accompanied by a typed letter signed, 1 1/2 pages, 7,75 x 10,25 inch, 5.12.1972, in Vietnamese, reply to Hans Lüder Temmen in Germany - concerning the history of Vietnam and the desire for peace, also signed (on her official stamp) in dark ink, with intersecting letter folds and pin holes/remnats to the upper left corners - in fine to very fine condition. Translation: "Dear Mr. Temmen, I understand from your letter that as a student you stand up for peace and understanding between peoples. Please accept my sympathy for your attitude. Following your question of July 31, 1972, I will send you this letter with my seal so that you can complete your collection. For a thousand years, our Vietnam was a monarchy that experienced little war, but peace and well-being. As an old empress of 84, all I can do is pray day and night for the restoration of peace in Vietnam. Intellectuals, politicians and religious communities from the USA and the Federal Republic of Germany are currently writing us letters to wish us peace. I am very touched by these feelings and I am happy to exchange my thoughts with these people."
