Frederick the Great
Letter signed, one page, 7,5 x 9,25 inch, Potsdam, 30.04.1777, in French, letter of recommendation to French actor Louis Lekain (1728-1778, French actor and friend of Voltaire), signed by Frederick II in black ink "Frd: Guillaume Pr.d.Pr." (prince de Prusse), attractively mounted (removable) for fine display with a picture, shows Frederick the Great in a beautiful half length portrait (altogether 16,5 x 11,75 inch), with brown spotting, and intersecting letter folds with a small tear (0,5 inch) to the right edge - in nearly fine condition. (Letter referenced and published in the Memoirs of Henri-Louis Lekain, published by his son in 1801.) In parts: "La personne qui vous remettra la presente ... est douee de tous les agrements de la nature. Elle desirerait y joindre quelques traits de cet art que vous avez ennobli; si elle peut profiter de vos conseils, je ne doute nullement de ses succes ... Le prince Henry se joint a moi pour vous la recommander ... " Translated: "The person who will give you this ... is endowed with all the approvals of nature. She would like to add to it some features of that art which you have ennobled; if she can take advantage of your advice, I have no doubt of her success ..."
