|Expert comment||Axel Ripke joined the re-established NSDAP as early as 1925 and in March 1925 was appointed Gauleiter of Rhineland-North by Hitler. His comrades such as Joseph Goebbels and Karl Kaufmann, however, did not consider him radical enough, and, in order to get rid of him, instituted expulsion proceedings against him chaired by Gregor Strasser on grounds of alleged misappropriation of party funds. In July 1925, Ripke resigned of his own accord, and Karl Kaufmann became Gauleiter. Subsequently Florian had declared him insane and in 1932 initieted expulsion proceedings against him.
